Ugh, just finished. My prompts were: 1. what are two aspects of diversity prospective teachers need to consider 2. Disparity between existing technology and what is available in the classroom.
Even though I knew those were two of the current topics, I just couldn't formulate a good thesis with supporting details in the time allotted.
I chose the diversity prompt, but I don't feel that I did well at all. I just need more time to plan it out. Definitely doesn't work, as some have suggested, to make a quick outline before pressing start. As soon as the prompts appear on the screen the time starts ticking. You just can't see it until you press the time button, but believe me, it's already counting down.
Just received my score for the essay I took on June 29th. I PASSED!!!!!🙃😃. I took the essay again on July 30th thinking I had failed. Just gave Pearson an extra 150 bucks! Oh, well there goes another write off for my taxes next year.
If anyone needs help with FTCE/FELE GKT - math, ELS and reading - Download an app called Pocket Prep and pay the extra 9.99 to unlock a ton of questions. It helped me pass those 3 sections - Hope this helps.
OMG, I just got my results last night at 10 pm. I actually passed the essay! This last essay was so much worse than my first; I thought I would be retaking it forever. The actual only thing that I believe saved me was my use of (mostly made up) examples and personal experience to back up my points. I just threw in there, "at [insert name of school here] School, our students blah, blah..." The rest of the essay was horrible. It was only 4 paragraphs with 3 sentences per paragraph. I'm telling you, I thought it stunk. I am giddy with excitement to be done with the GKT! On to the Pro Ed.
Please don't give up hope if you don't feel you did well. I had really written this retake off as a big waste of money, and I was shocked to see the results. I almost didn't even look before bed. Think positive :)
I just accepted an offer to teach K. Went to the school yesterday and talked with a couple K teachers there. I'm glad my own kids aren't Kindergarteners today! Their entire day is completely packed with scheduled stuff; absolutely no time for even circle time to go over the calendar, talk about the days of the week or months of the year etc. or just have the kids tell something interesting or fun that may have happened over the weekend. No rest time; every child must complete 45 minutes each of math and reading on the computer every week. I realize they are little sponges, soaking up all that information, but they need to be squeezed out once in a while to make room for more!

For the rubric I concentrated on putting in 2 examples from personal experience, although I never changed to first person. I would say, "At Milwee Middle School the students are from very diverse backgrounds...." And I focused my essay on economic diversity, and how teachers have to take that into consideration when planning lessons and assigning work to their students because many students don't have access to the internet when they aren't at school. How teachers have to differentiate assignments to give all students a way to achieve the learning goals even without technology. That the students who don't have electronic access at home are often bus riders and are not able to come early or stay after school to complete work. Etc, etc.
I made sure to use First, Next and In conclusion to start my paragraphs after the introductory paragraph. I only had 4 paragraphs with only 3-4 sentences each. It was a terrible essay, but I included the essentials.
My grammar, spelling and vocabulary are usually not a problem, so I focused on the other things in the rubric. I also made sure to use compound sentences as much as possible with howevers and therefores sprinkled in.
